British Council is delighted to announce a new partnership with Antara Gallery of Photo Journalism (Galeri Foto Jurnalistik Antara) to develop and deliver photography workshop, as a pilot for future collaboration.

Entitled The Harbour, this workshop is designed to explore and hone the visual story-telling skills of young professional and semi-professional Indonesian photographers in Makassar. The Harbour is also a satellite event of a triennale photo exhibition, Jakarta International Photo Summit 2014.

From 26 November—2 December, UK photographer, Mimi Mollica, accompanied by one Indonesian photographer, will deliver the workshop for around 10 selected photographers. Immersed in discussions, cultural and knowledge exchange, hands-on experience of photographing and editing bodies of work, The Harbour will be a rich and inspiring exploration of the many ways to produce and publish photography work.

The aims of the workshop are:

  • Develop visual literacy skills—telling story with picture.
  • Instil a sense of professional self-confidence.
  • Provide workshop participants with strategies for getting their work published and securing future possible commissions.
  • Develop a support network for future collaboration
  • Each participants will have created at least one photo story which reflects international publishing or exhibition standard
  • At least one of these photo stories is published whether in local, national or international publication or exhibition.

The workshop will take a theme that celebrates our position as the largest archipelago country; The Harbour. The underlying issues to be explored in the workshop will include the many ways people live nearby the ocean, the relationship between human and nature, as well as the dynamism of harbour cities.

The theme is also in line with this year’s Jakarta International Photo Summit, City of Waves, which tries to elaborate and present the cultural and political condition and the relationship between man and their cities.

Come visit the public presentation of Mimi Mollica! After the seven-day workshop, Mimi Mollica will also present his works in documentary and photo journalism, as well as his personal projects. You might learn something new on developing international network and publishing your story to reach wider audience.

The public presentation will be open to public
