Introduction & Background
For the past 10 years, the British Council has delivered a successful social leadership training programme called Active Citizens, that promotes intercultural dialogue and community-led social development. Drawing on this program, British Council in partnership with the Social Enterprise (SE) Academy in UK have developed a similar programme aimed at developing and supporting social enterprise leaders called Active Citizens Social Enterprise Learning Program started in 2015.
The key purpose of the program is to help and support social enterprise leaders to create sustainable of social, environmental and cultural impact across the globe. In 2015 British Council and SE Academy produced Active Citizens Social Enterprise (ACSE) Toolkit to support social enterprise leaders to:
- Become more self-aware and confident as leaders
- Strengthen their capacity to communicate and build strong relationships with others; build teams and harness diversity and difference to develop their social enterprise
- Enhance their capacity to tap into, engage with and embed their organisation n the local community
- Take action and ensure their organisation is sustainable
Higher Educations (HE) Context
In South East Asia region, the ACSE toolkit has been used for more than 3 years as training material to diverse audiences – including with lecturers and students in HE institutions. From 2019, the region will have a greater focus on HE institutions in order to support both lecturers and students in developing and incubating socially entrepreneurial ideas has been identified as a priority
British Council and SE Academy have updated and developed the existing ACSE Toolkit based on the feedback from lecturers who have used the ACSE toolkit in their institutions. Additional context and content will enable lecturers to deepen their own knowledge and awareness - supporting them to feel confident in adapting materials for their own curricula for HE institutions.
The new ACSE toolkit will be introduced to Higher Education Educators through Training of Trainer (ToT): Active Citizens Social Enterprise from 26-29 November 2019 in Hanoi, Vietnam.
Objective
The objective of the Training of Trainer: Active Citizens Social Enterprise is to:
Bring Higher Education Educators (HE Educators) together in order to understand the purpose and vision of Active Citizens Social Enterprise
Become familiar and confident in exploring social enterprise with their students via Active Citizens program and to gain experience that enables delivery direct to their future participants such as students, university colleagues, communities as well as developing skills, value and and networking
Receive direct feedback from lecturers against the new ACSE toolkit. The constractive feedback from lecturers will be very useful to complete and finalize the toolkit.
Participant
British Council is inviting HE Educators/Lecturers to attend the ToT, if you are:
- Active Citizens/Socail Enterprise (AC/SE) facilitator who can train facilitators from universities in in country
- University lecturer who can facilitate/interested in facilitation and ACSE and teach entrepreneurship
- University lecturer who can facilitate/interested in facilitation and ACSE doing/delivering AC or SE as extra curricula, or doing incubation
- AC/SE or facilitator that can facilitate or used to facilitate entrepreneurship incubation/bootcamp in university level
- University lecturer who teach entrepreneurship and have a need to teach about SE but not yet exposed to AC/SE and willing to learn and commit to cascade
- University lecturers doing community development or in charge with community development work with their students
We will select the participants based on the application form emailed to society.indonesia@britishcouncil.org (please send your application in MS Word format) by 16 November 2019 at 17.00 WIB.
British Council will cover the following for successful participants:
- accommodation from 25-30 November 2019
- meals during the training (coffee break & lunch)
The successful participants will cover expenses are not mentioned above.
