ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT/TEAM

The British Council’s programme activity focuses on three core areas of work: Education and Society; Arts and English & Examinations.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING AND WHY
The Programme Officer is responsible for delivering administration support directly to the Arts team. You will work with the team, the Indonesian arts sector (taken to include theatre, dance, music, visual arts, architecture, design, fashion, literature, film and creative economy), colleagues in the UK and the british arts sector to effectively administer arts programmes and partnerships, in line with British Council strategic objectives.
Programmes are to be delivered in line with the British Council’s cultural relations mission to improve connections and relationships between the Indonesian and British arts sectors and reflect British Council’s cultural relations mission.
WHAT IS INTERESTING ABOUT IT
The British Council has recently finalised UK/ID, a three-year campaign that seeks to change relationships between UK and Indonesia, two hugely creative countries that previously see very little cultural exchange between them but have a vast amount to gain from getting to know each other. Through this programme we had seen more than 250 UK and Indonesian arts organisations connected, 72 artists take part in international residencies, 1,900 cultural professionals engaged, over 90 collaborative new works of art produced, and more than 500,000 audience members reached.
As we move and transition into internationalising the Cultural Sector, a new programme whereby we seek to maintain the relationships built throughout the UK/ID season, and develop projects that can highlight its legacy, focusing on several key themes that were significant throughout the campaign: arts and disability, music and creative technology, and connections with Liverpool.
At the same time, we are taking part in the new global programme, Developing Inclusive and Creative Economies (DICE), as it focuses on supporting interventions design specifically to empower women and girls, foster youth employability, support people with disabilities and other marginalised groups; as well as the regional Crafting Futures programme, which supports the future of craft around the globe through strengthening economic, social, and cultural development through learning and access.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are looking for someone with a proven track record of office, project or events administration and financial implementation preferably within the arts and creative industries or international context. You need to demonstrate your ability to communicate effectively with different audiences, including senior stakeholders. You must demonstrate professional interest in the Indonesia Arts Sector. Excellent organisational and administrative skills, software skills and excellent spoken and written Bahasa Indonesia and English are required for this role.
